About

I was handed a stack of Jon Kabat-Zinn cassette tapes in 1998, and so began a journey into meditation that changed my life in both expected and surprising ways.

My practice helps me more skillfully surf all the ups and downs of being human, which for me includes anxiety, addiction, chronic illness and a cranky nervous system. It’s helped me be a better person. I simply suffer less and enjoy more peace, even when life is hard. I’m less in my mind, more in my body and heart, and have ever-increasing relief from identification with the Tanya stories.

I love sharing practice, and began my teaching journey at Grail Springs Retreat Centre for Wellbeing in 2011. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of offering meditation workshops, classes, private coaching and courses in a wide variety of settings, including community, retreat and online spaces. During my six-year engagement with the Awaken the World Initiative, I co-created meditation-related media projects, notably the Samadhi films  (Part One and Part Two), and co-taught several residential meditation retreats.

In 2022 I founded Seeds in order to host in-person retreats at the Monastery of Mount Carmel. With a vision to make meditation practice and support freely available to as many people as possible, Seeds grew into Seeds Meditation Community, and we also now offer a full calendar of weekly free, live, virtual meditation sessions, all led by our team of respected, seasoned teachers.

Many wonderful teachers have influenced my practice over the years: Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta Maharaj, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Jack Kornfield, Rupert Spira, Nicolas Greco, Michael Taft, Tara Brach, Leigh Brasington…too many to mention. But when introduced to the teachings of Shinzen Young in 2016 I was completely hooked, and have since attended several retreats with him. In 2023 I became a certified Teacher/Trainer in his brilliant Unified Mindfulness system, and also had the honour of co-teaching a week-long meditation retreat with Shinzen that same year.

I’m deeply grateful for all of the life experiences and people who help me continue to grow, and am committed to a journey of perpetual learning and improvement to best support my own journey, as well as those of the people I lead in practice and support.

It’s important to me that my weekly online meditation sessions are freely available to all, and that no one is turned away from coaching support regardless of ability to pay. If you’re interested in and able to support my work, donations-big or small-are very, very much appreciated. Below is a Paypal link, or contact me for other options.

with Gratitude and Love,

Tanya

Private One-on-One or Group Sessions

Meditating can be really challenging for a number of reasons but I’m confident that anyone - with the right support - can enjoy a robust, deeply beneficial practice. Having personalized support can go a long way to working smarter, not harder so you can efficiently reap the many rewards of meditation. As a trained coach I offer customized support, practices and strategies to stabilize, deepen and accelerate your progress regardless of whether you’re dealing with a situation or practice challenge and/or are interested in deepening your practice.

I can’t count the ways my practice has lead to a radically happier, more peaceful life, and because of that I’m passionate about empowering others to reduce their own suffering and increase fulfillment. Having worked with folks who feel that ‘they can’t meditate’ we 100% of the time find practical, effective techniques and strategies that meaningfully address what matters most to them. You can check out some testimonials here from some students I’ve worked with over the years.

Private coaching typically happens over Zoom and are arranged at a frequency and length of call that works best for you. I offer a free introductory meeting to see if we’re a good fit, and to also discuss my rate. Reduced rates/pro bono are sometimes available. Please feel free to contact me to chat about working one-on-one; it’s truly my pleasure to connect and offer more information.

I also offer customized meditation sessions and workshops to private groups in community and corporate settings, from one hour presentations to six week courses. Please don’t hesitate to contact me to explore possibilities.

Wishing you many moments of peace and joy,

Tanya
